Overview

Pre-print Production is the task of preparing the artwork for your phone book advertising, business cards, pamphlets, sign writing, website, etc.

Usually, a client would already have their graphic design sorted out, and then can give the .psd file to us to fill in the backgrounds, fonts, arrange content etc.  Basically, to make the overall ad then template it to fit the requirements of the printing firm.

Pre-print Production Prices:

* KN means a service provided by Keppel Net, e.g. if we build your website or shop signage. OS means other supplier.

What you should know

Many printing firms or publishers, say your local business card supplier or phone directory, have an artwork department who can handle pre-print production for their customers.  They usually charge a token fee of $60 - $100 "setup" or "layout" fee.

They know that price is attractive to new businesses and many people go that way the first time around.  Established businesses however, tend to opt out of using the in-house pre-print folk.

The reason for this, is that in-house production is very generic and never original.  It has to be that way or the costs are too high for the publisher.  It's the old adage, you get what you pay for, i.e. a quick job by an amateur making an ad from a template they've used a dozen times before.

The proof of this is in your local phone book, say "Hair Dressers" or "Motor Mechanics".  You'll find they all look very much the same and it's just a blur to the eye.  How do you pick one from the other?  Make an ad that goes against the grain.

If you haven't read our short tutorial on Graphic Design, we recommend that you do so before arranging any advertising.
