Optimisation
There are two types of optimisation, visual
optimisation and Search Engine Optimisation
(called SEO).
Visual Optimisation is simply making the website
attractive to visitors, giving them what they
want to see, but keeping it different enough
from your competitors to keep your visitors
interested. Web designers usually get this
wrong.
SEO is the other type of optimisation, where the
goal is to make the site "technically
attractive" to search engines. It is a
highly technical skill, requiring a knowledge of
what search engines want to see.
These attributes are ever changing in order to
thwart spam sites etc, and it is a definite
skill to make a website stand out to search
engines without standing out too much.
